We teach a 1 credit hour online for-credit information literacy course that is a General Education Requirement at Fontbonne University. This course was in place when we arrived on campus in 2004 and although it has undergone numerous updates and rewrites over the intervening 13 years, Blackboard has always been the Learning Management System used.
This year, after investigating several options, the campus is introducing a new system, Schoology. As we transition course material, layout and testing to a new interface we found ourselves faced with numerous decisions. How do we best utilize the features of this new platform? What ARE the features of this new platform? Should we wholesale copy the course as it stands into the new interface or rebuild the course from scratch? Do we need to revise the course as we go?
We will share our journey through this transition, the questions we asked (and answered), decisions we made, and the tips and tricks we learned along the way. Having field tested the course, we will also share the revisions we found necessary to take advantage of all the new platform has to offer.
