When MOBIUS began lending media in 2013, it was on an opt-in basis by library. Only a portion of libraries chose to lend their media, but all patrons could borrow. We will provide a snapshot of how it is going four years later, including problems that we encountered and solved (for example, damage to cases, multi-barcode containers) and how we set up lending and decided which media we would lend. We’ll also present overall statistics from MOBIUS on media borrowing and lending. Both our libraries (the Kansas City Art Institute, a smaller school and media collection; the University of Missouri-Kansas City, a larger school and media collection) consider lending our media to be a success. In sharing our stories, we hope to provide libraries that were hesitant about lending media back in 2013 with information to make a data-based decision on lending media and ideally increase the overall amount of media available for MOBIUS loan, thus benefitting MOBIUS patrons.
